The Voice Distillery are giving away high-quality voice-over equipment and one-year memberships for VOKickstart to the best renditions of our competition brief.

Judging: An internal panel of experts at The Voice Distillery will create a shortlist of up to 30 contributions. For the final judgement, we are delighted to introduce our head judge, Nicola Redman. Nic is not only a fantastic voice-over artist but is also a highly regarded voice and accent coach who has taught at leading UK drama schools: RADA, Art Ed, East 15, LIPA, and ALRA. She has also coached for the BBC, Hattrick, and many other prestigious TV and theatre production companies.

Nic runs ‘The Voice and Accent Hub’ Facebook group, which is a fantastic resource for all voiceovers, actors, and narrators. She can also be contacted on her website.

Criteria: You will be judged on the professionality of your recording (recording quality, microphone technique) and by your ability to fulfil the details of the brief and get the message across. We ask that you don’t add any background music or compression to your entry.

Prizes:

1st prize: Neumann TLM102 microphone (RRP: £476)
2nd prize: Audient ID4 audio interface (RRP: £108) plus one year of membership to VOKickstart (worth £200)
3rd prize: One year of membership for VOKickstart (worth £200)

There is also an additional prize of a pair of Audio-Technica closed back headphones (RRP £79) for the most imaginative company name, which we are asking you to make up and include in your script. You’ll find further details of this on the brief.

Entry restrictions: You have to be over 18 years of age and a UK resident to take part. If you win you will need to provide us with a UK postal address to receive your prize. Any prizes will not be posted outside the UK. Please find the full T&Cs below.

Closing date: September 18th 2020, 5 pm (UK time). Winners will be announced on VOKickstart by October 5th 2020.

  1. This competition is run by the Voice Distillery Ltd (company number 656265), registered office is at Business Innovation Zone (BIZ), Queen Margaret University, Musselburgh, EH21 6UU.
  2. By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating their agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
  3. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition.
  4. You have to be over 18 years of age and a UK resident to take part. If you win you will need to provide us with a UK postal address to receive your prize. Any prizes will not be posted outside the UK. 
  5. The competition is not open to employees of The Voice Distillery and their close relatives and anyone otherwise connected with the organisation or judging of the competition.
  6. Only one entry will be accepted per person. Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified.

  8. Closing date for entry will be September 18th 2020, 5 pm (UK time). After this date the no further entries to the competition will be permitted.
  9. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.
  10. The Voice Distillery is not responsible for inaccurate prize details supplied to any entrant by any third party connected with this competition.
  11. There are no cash prize alternatives to our prizes and the prizes are not transferable.
  12. Prizes are subject to availability and we reserve the right to substitute any prize with another of equivalent value.
  13. Winners will be notified by email within 30 days after the closing date and have 14 days to respond. If the winner cannot be contacted or do not claim the prize within 14 days of notification, we reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner. Prizes will be posted within 7 days after the winner’s response.
  14. The Voice Distillery’s and independent judge’s decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  15. The competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by Scottish law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Scotland.
  16. Copyright to the entries will remain with the entrant, but the entrant licences The Voice Distillery to use the recordings for their own R&D projects. This excludes publication of the samples in whole or in parts. If The Voice Distillery wants to publish the samples in the future, separate license will be sought.
  17. Winners’ names will only be announced on our website after explicit agreement from the entrant.
  18. Any personal data relating to the winner or any other entrants will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection legislation and will not be disclosed to a third party without the entrant’s prior consent.   19. The Voice Distillery reserves the right to cancel the competition if circumstances arise outside of its control.
